This language from the conference description is just so great:

“Intentional or unintentional, cultural differences can open the door to subpar treatment of Black people seeking mental health treatment. Racial and ethnic disparities in mental health treatment in Black communities often come about as a result of stereotyping, bias, and play therapists’ uncertainty. Often, the therapeutic relationship is viewed as an unequal distribution of power, so a treatment provider’s perception of how Black people present in therapeutic spaces may color their judgments and the level of respect they accord Black clients.

Cultural competency, cultural empathy, and cultural humility are vital product and process components of proving effective and responsible mental health treatment to the Black community.”
